What to gather before your website build
By Kaylee Dalke
A website goes a lot faster when the pieces are ready. Nothing has to be perfect, but rounding these up saves a lot of back and forth.
Your logo
Send the best version you have. A file from your designer is ideal, but a clear picture works to start. No logo? That's ok. I can help with something simple.
Photos
Real photos of your business do more than anything else on a website. Your shop, your team, your work, your trucks. Go through your phone and pick your favorites, and send the originals instead of screenshots when you can.
Photos from a photographer? Make sure you can use them online, and note who took them.
Your words
You don't have to be a writer. Start with:
- What you do, in a couple of plain sentences
- Who you do it for, and where
- A little about you
- The questions customers ask you all the time
Got an old website or a Facebook page? I'll carry over what works.
Services and prices
List what you offer, with prices if you're comfortable. Customers really do want to see prices, and even a "starting at" number helps.
A domain name
Your address online, like yourbusiness.com. Already own one? Make sure you can log in. Don't have one? I'll help you buy one in your name, usually $15 to $25 a year.
A few extras, if you have them
- Reviews you've gotten by text, email, or on Google
- Your Google Business Profile login
- Your booking or payment system
- 3 websites you like the look of
That's it! You can send most of it with the form, including up to 5 photos. Don't let the list stop you, though. It all starts with a free mockup, and you can gather the rest while I build it.
