Put your phone number at the top of your website
By Kaylee Dalke
If someone is on your website, there's a good chance they're trying to reach you. Make it easy. Put your phone number at the top of every page.
It's the easiest fix I know, and I see it missing all the time on small business sites around Idaho and Eastern Oregon.
Why the top
Most people visit your site on their phone, in the truck or at the ballgame. They want your number now, without scrolling past your whole story. In the header, it's there the second any page opens.
Make it tappable
On a phone, your number should start a call with one tap. Typed as plain text or saved in an image, it's one more step, and some people won't bother.
Rather get texts? Say so right next to it: "Call or text." Folks in small towns text everything.
Use one number everywhere
Use the same number on your website, your Google Business Profile, and your Facebook page. Customers trust it, and Google can match it all up. Changed numbers? Update the old ones.
A few other things that help
- Put your town or service area near the top too.
- Add your hours if people call during set times.
- Keep a contact page with your number, email, and a short form.
That's it! It takes about five minutes and it's one of the best changes you can make. Every site I build has the number up top for exactly this reason. Want me to look at yours? Just reach out.
