Can I update my own website after it's built?
By Kaylee Dalke
This is one of the first things people ask me. Nobody wants to text their web designer every time the holiday hours change.
The short answer is yes, you can.
The editing dashboard
If you want to make your own changes, I set your site up with a simple dashboard. You log in, click the page, and type. It's a lot like filling out a form, with no code.
The Hammer Down River Excursions team updates their own words and photos this way. The owner of KW Wedding Events even sees a live preview of the site right next to the editing boxes.
What you can change
- Words on any page
- Prices and packages
- Hours and contact info
- Photos
- FAQs and reviews
What stays locked
The layout and design stay put, on purpose. You can't break your site by clicking the wrong thing. Type something you don't like? Just type it again.
When to call me
For 30 days after launch, I fix anything that isn't right and make small tweaks, free. After that, bigger changes like a new page or a new look get a quick quote.
Do you have to edit it yourself?
Nope! Some owners love the control, and some would rather never think about it. Just tell me at the start. If you want the editor, I set it up, walk you through it, and send a short cheat sheet.
Make sure you own the logins
Whoever builds your site, make sure the domain, hosting, and editor are in your business's name. On my builds, they always are, and I hand you the keys at launch.
Stuck with a site you can't change? I'd love to help. Start with a free mockup and we'll go from there.
