Our doctors

Raised on a cow-calf outfit near Cottonwood

Dr. Ruth Calder bought the practice from old Doc Haynes in 2009, after twelve years of riding along on his calls. She still keeps a dozen pairs of her own, so she knows what a hard calving season costs.

Dr. Sam Ortiz joined in 2019 and handles most of the small animal surgery. Between them and four techs, somebody is always on call.

If you'd lie awake worrying about it, it's worth a call. I'd rather drive out for nothing than miss a calf that needed help.

Not sure if it can wait till morning? Call. We'd rather hear from you.

Do you see emergencies after hours?

Yes. Call the clinic number any time. After 5:30 it rings the doctor on call, and we'll meet you at the clinic or come out.

How far will you drive for a farm call?

Most of Idaho County: the whole prairie, down to Kooskia and up to White Bird. Mileage is figured from the clinic.

Can I bring a horse to the clinic?

Yes. We have a covered chute, two stocks and a small paddock out back. Call ahead so we can have the gate open.

Do you take new clients?

We do. Bring any old vaccine records you have, or just tell us the name of your last vet and we'll call them.
